Texas Mu Phi Epsilon

Butler School of Music - University of Texas at Austin

"To advance music in the community, nation, and throughout the world; to promote musicianship, scholarship, therapy, and education, with emphasis on service through music; and to enhance loyalty to the Alma Mater and develop true bonds of friendship."

Music

The Mu Theta chapter mostly consists of instrumentalists. Our vocalists help lead our Mu Theta Chorus, teach us vocal techniques, and prepare us for our chapter recitals. Because of our chapter's many instrumentalists, we have many chamber groups such as: the Mu Theta Clarinet Ensemble, the Mu Theta Brass Ensemble, flute trios, and even bassoon trios! Our members perform for the Austin community by means of the Mu Theta Chapter ensembles at least once a semester. In the past we have performed at the Frank Erwin Center, the UT Student Activity Center, and the Austin Retirement and Nursing Center.

Friendship

Every school year, the culture of our chapter stays the same: friendly, caring, and trusting. We host social events that foster the Mu Phi Epsilon pillar of friendship. In the Mu Theta chapter, we host three rush events, two social events, and an entry ceremony dinner every fall semester. Each spring semester, we have three social events and a banquet to finish off the year. If you become a member of our chapter, you will become part of the Mu Ph-amily!

Harmony

Each semester, our active members must acquire 10 service hours through Mu Phi Epsilon and by helping the Austin community.  Although we ask for 10 hours, our members usually obtain more than that amount easily. Each membership class must do two substantial service events at the music school and one Austin community service event. Our chapter has participated in many park clean-ups such as Public Lands Day hosted by the Waller Creek Conservancy and Keep Austin Beautiful located at Mount Bonnell.
